The Chicago Defender
Did you know that the Chicago Defender played a major part in the Great Migration?
Robert Sengstacke Abbott, the founder of the Chicago Defender has his newspaper transported by Pullman Porters and Black entertainers. This helped people in the South know and understand what was going on in the North. The Chicago Defender once had a distribution publication of over two-hundred thousand copies per week. Abbott died in 1940 and his nephew took over and remained the publisher until his death in 1997.
