Provident Hospital

Did you know that Provident Hospital in Chicago was the first U.S. hospital operated by Blacks? Founded by Daniel Hale Williams, the first Black doctor to perform open-heart surgery, Provident was established to train Black doctors and nurses and to give Black people a place to seek professional care. Provident Hospital is still open today.
