Marjorie Stewart Joyner

Did you know that Joyner was the first Black to patent the permanent waving machine and the first black woman to receive a patent for an invention? Joyner also co-founded the United Beauty School Owners and Teachers Association and she organized the first Bud Billiken Day Parade in 1929; Joyner was an employee of Madame C.J. Walker but had a vision of her own that took her to higher heights including earning her Bachelor’s degree from Bethune-Cookman College in 1973 at age seventy-seven.
