Did you know that Winters invented the fire escape ladder in 1878?

There was a wooden ladder in existence, but Winters’s vision of a better more progressive ladder consisted of a metal frame with parallel steps. The metal ladder was better equipped to help people escape from higher floors in the event of a fire.
