Garcia Real de Santa Teres de Mose
Did you know that the first free Black town was in the south and not in the north? It was the free black town of Garcia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose in Florida. It has been taught and believed that slaves had to escape north in order to be free, but in the late 1600s if slaves could make it to Spanish Florida and converted to Catholicism they were granted their freedom.
