Celebrating Black History Month
Did you know that Jim Crow got its name from these two things? 1. Jimmy like you would a lock so, manipulate and 2. crows because farmers would soak the corn in whiskey and when they ate it they would appear to be dancing and the farmers would beat them to death. There was a white comedian who performed in blackface and did a dance called “Jump Jim” Crow as a way to make fun of slaves.
Slave owners would often make the slaves sing and dance for them and if they didn’t do a good enough job they would beat them afterward. Blackface is not funny, it is not a Halloween costume and it should not be taken lightly.
