Stephanie Kwolek July 31, 1923 – June 18, 2014

Was a Polish-born scientist who worked for Dupont for over forty years.  Kwolek discovered a plethora of synthetic fibers with superior strength, among them was Kevlar.

Kevlar was invented by accident. Initially, Kwolek was working to find new steel to be used in tires. Kevlar has been used in many modern-day articles from bullet-proof vests to hockey sticks.
