Dorothy Height (March 24, 1912 – April 20, 2010)

Born in Richmond Virginia and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Height was a Civil Rights and Women’s activist.  Height was the President of The National Council of Negro Women in 1958 and held the position until 1990. Height was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994.  Though she never had any children of her own, Height was known as the Godmother of the Civil Rights Movement.
