Ava DuVernay (August 24, 1972)

Is the first Black woman to win the Director award at the Sundance Film Festival. DuVernay was the first black woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Director and the first Black woman to direct a live-action film earning $100 million at U.S. Box offices.  Check out the limited series that garnered 16 Emmy Nominations, When They See Us on Netflix.
