Celebrating Black History Month
Did you know that there were Black people on the Titanic? Joseph Laroche was a Black man married to a White woman and they had two children together. Joseph perished, but his wife who was pregnant and their two girls survived. As Irony would have it, they weren’t supposed to be on that ship. They actually had first class tickets on another ship. That ship forbade children in the dining room and the couple didn’t want to leave their children for dinner, so they traded their first-class tickets for steerage class tickets on the Titanic.
